The business’ reputation for reliably delivering quality construction projects has led to a large bulk of future works coming from repeat business. The future vision for the business is to maintain the core values of Quality, Honesty and Service, the same values the business was founded on over 40 years ago.

As workload grew, the company eventually changed direction becoming a management contractor developing a wide and sustainable supply chain of local subcontractors allowing the business to deliver larger and more complex projects. The company developed a more sophisticated structure of management, and also brought estimating, buying and surveying in-house.

Hobson & Porter enjoy a large public sector client base complimented with large local private organisations, delivering an impressive 90% of repeat business.

2016

The company is headed by a board of Directors including Peter’s daughters Jacquie and Julie and sons-in-law David and Mark. The business has seen recent expansion to a turnover of in excess of £35 million despite the economic downturn, and a restructure has focused the company on a diverse selection of construction projects, both major and minor, and clients from all sectors.

The company took on larger projects along with additional staff, turning into a significant local contractor and employer, with 160 staff and a turnover of £10 million. The workload and client base expanded, with work from the local authority being complemented by regular contracts with the Department for Health, Housing Associations and Smith & Nephew, eventually extending to work with East Riding Council and authorities south of the River Humber.

1997

Hobson & Porter Limited steadily grew and, after 13 years on New Cleveland Street, moved into premises at the current location on Sutton Fields Industrial Estate which were designed and built by the company.

1996

Change of company name to Hobson & Porter Limited. Roy Atkin retired and Dave Watson became General Manager.

1993

Dave Watson joined the company as a Quantity Surveyor.

1984

Hobson & Porter outgrew the ‘office’ that was Pete’s converted garage in east Hull and moved to premises on New Cleveland Street.

Roy Atkin joined the Company as General Manager/Estimator, working from Pete’s converted garage in East Hull.
